LDHL is honored to have positively impacted the lives of our Lancaster County students by supporting their post-secondary educational goals. Since 1961, we have provided more than $21 million in interest-free loans!

#SummerExperience: "I had a full-time internship, which was challenging to balance alongside social activities and staying active! I would recommend trying to get some form of career experience before graduating in order to rule out what you are and aren't looking for in a job. I also met a lot of people who have industry experience, which will be great when I am looking to get a job post-grad!" ~Lauren L. (William & Mary University)

Jacob Spade is the recipient of the Irel Buckwalter Legacy Loan. Jacob graduated from Warwick High School in 2025. He is attending Lancaster Bible College, majoring in business administration. During high school, Jacob was involved in basketball, Link Crew, National Business Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, and volunteered at Sunday school. He went on a mission trip to Kentucky and enjoys working with kids. He will play basketball at LBC. Jacob hopes to use his degree to lead to a good job so he can support his family and help others.

#SuccessStory: "I graduated in May 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Biobehavioral Health and a minor in Psychology. Currently, I am working as a Case Manager with UnitedHealthcare, where I support patients both during and after their recovery to ensure there are no gaps in their care. It has been so rewarding to be a part of people’s healing process and to know that my role helps make healthcare more accessible and compassionate. Looking ahead, I plan to pursue my Master’s degree in the upcoming year as I continue to grow in this field. What I enjoy most about where I am right now is the ability to make a meaningful impact on others’ lives. Matthew Rota is the recipient of the R.D. and Rhoda Buckwalter Legacy Loan. Matthew graduated from Lampeter Strasburg High School in 2025. He is attending Juniata College, majoring in secondary math education. During high school, Matthew was involved in marching, concert & jazz band, swim team, and Boy Scout Troop 56. His greatest achievement is earning Eagle Scout rank. Matthew looks forward to participating on the men’s swimming team and earning a college degree in secondary math education.

#MentorMonday: "Advice that I have for current college students, make sure that you get the most out of your time in college and try to talk to as many people as you can in the field you are studying. It's very important to get as much information as you can about what your degree can do in the real world and how you can use it. Most importantly, make sure you love what you do :) " ~Tyler J. Raafat Alabdullah is the recipient of the Elwood Bookman Estate Legacy Loan. Raafat graduated from McCaskey High School in 2025. He is attending Millersville University and has not yet decided on a major. During high school, Raafat was involved in the coding program and the soccer team and participated in the Mosque. His greatest achievement is graduating from high school despite facing numerous challenges. Rafaat is determined and keeps pushing forward no matter what. He only came to the US a few years ago, learned English quickly, and still graduated with a 4.02 GPA. Raafat's life goal is to attend college to earn a degree that will open doors to new opportunities and build a better life.
