Kayla Lefever is the recipient of the Robert Kauffman Memorial Legacy Loan. Kayla graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School in 2025. She is attending Elizabethtown College, majoring in biochemistry. In high school, Kayla was involved in theater, choir, Respect Life Club, Fiat, softball, French Club & Spanish Club, and was a student ambassador. One of her greatest achievements was graduating from high school with honors. Kayla’s life goal is to graduate from college and start working in labs the following year.

When I learned about LDHL in high school, my family and I were just so amazed and in awe of God’s faithfulness – because how often is there a non-interest loan for students from a single county? #SuccessStory: "I have gotten involved in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) at Penn State, and within ASME, I have joined a modular drone team. Within this team, I have seen numerous examples of teamwork. At our weekly meetings, we often discuss designs and what work or ideas other group members have produced. Then we will assign different smaller projects to individual group members, and these individual projects are then put together as a whole and then reevaluated and often modified. One of the biggest examples I can think of is the fact that we went through at least 4 different iterations of the design for the core of our drone before finally settling on one. This required contributions from many different group members, as someone would pitch an idea, and someone else would then give a suggestion, or point out a flaw, or build off the previous idea. Several different people brought designs to our meetings to display and discuss. Once we had finalized our design, there were smaller issues found with the individual components, such as the arms being too difficult to 3D print, or the legs being too weak, and the battery cage being too flimsy. Different group members were assigned to each of these individual components, and we were able to make modifications and print out a prototype of our drone to display the week before finals." ~Eric J. Liana Samuel is the recipient of the Mary Mae Barton Memorial Legacy Loan. Liana graduated from McCaskey High School in 2025. She is attending McDaniel College, majoring in nursing. In high school, Liana was involved in cheerleading, women's wrestling, gospel choir, track, Black Student Union, and was a Link leader. Her best personal trait is her caring nature towards the people around her. Liana’s life goal is to give back to those who supported her through her journey. She wants to graduate as a nurse and work in Lancaster County, giving back to her community.
