Jess graduated from Penn Manor before earning her BS Psychology and English Literature from the University of Pittsburgh in 2014 and her MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health in 2017, where she is now a PhD student in Epidemiology. Formerly, she worked as an epidemiologist for the Immunization Unit of the Texas Department of State Health Services and as a Research Associate on a randomized clinical trial in the Department of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jess says, “I volunteered as a member of the Medical Reserve Corps if the Health Department reaches capacity and needs more epidemiologists to help during the pandemic.”When asked how her education prepared her to serve during this time of crisis, she comments, “My former experiences working in the health department, particularly as a vaccination subject matter expert, are great experiences which could be used during the pandemic if need arises. Of course, epidemiologists are trained in many vital public health activities such as contact tracing, data analysis, visualization and more.”
